As your premier cosmetic dentist office in Calgary, Foothills Dentistry offers BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment as a solution to help enhance your smile and give you the natural-looking results you’ve always desired. Botox is an FDA approved a cosmetic and facial rejuvenation treatment that safely and effectively reduces the signs of aging.

Patients can receive their Botox injection during their biannual dental care visit, or as regularly as they need them. Many patients receive Botox as part of their personalized smile makeover plan. In some cases, we may incorporate Botox injection into your treatment plan if you are suffering from teeth grinding, also known as bruxism.

BOTOX® for Bruxism

If you regularly grind your teeth or clench your jaw, you understand how painful it is. These actions will place a lot of strain on your temporomandibular joints (TMJ) which leads to pain, stiffness, and soreness when trying to open and close your mouth. BOTOX® is great treatment that has been proven to help patients who suffer from bruxism find relief.

Dr. Chahal will inject the therapeutic treatment directly into the muscles in and around your mouth. This will allow the muscles to relax which will address the soreness. In doing this, the pressure is then released from the teeth and damage to your teeth is completely avoided. Keeping the muscles relaxed as much as possible will help retrain the brain to not over-use them.

Botox What to Expect

Dr. Chahal will perform an in-depth cosmetic consultation and analysis of the skin to determine the appropriate dosage and placement of the BOTOX® injections. We tailor your treatments to best meet your cosmetic goals.

Prior to treatment, the affected area is numbed to prepare you for the injections. Once you are made comfortable, Dr. Chahal will carefully inject the BOTOX® into the designated areas. Some patients report filling a slight sensation of pressure during their injections. Some patients may experience minor swelling at the injection site after their treatments; this typically fades after a few days.

On average, BOTOX® lasts for about six months after the first initial treatment. Aside from the facial rejuvenation benefits of BOTOX®, in some cases, it can be used to treat headaches, TMJ pain, and teeth grinding.

Dr. Chahal will explain all aspects of your care during your consultation and make recommendations based on your needs.
