Invisalign FAQs

Invisalign is a cosmetic dental treatment made up of sets of removable aligners. These clear aligners are highly flexible and often more comfortable than other orthodontic systems. Invisalign can be used to treat crooked teeth, overbite, underbite, crossbite, gaps in teeth, and crowded teeth. The aligners are replaced every few weeks to help the teeth shift into a straighter position.

Dr. Shruti Chahal provides Invisalign treatment to her dental patients at Foothills Dentistry in Calgary, AB. She takes her patient’s concerns, budgetary needs, and dental history into account before choosing a customized dental treatment.

Invisalign FAQs

Many patients have several common questions before choosing Invisalign, including:

Is everyone a candidate for Invisalign?

Sometimes children and adolescents may not be good candidates for Invisalign treatment because their teeth are still growing. However, there are special Invisalign treatments available for children and adolescents. We also offer braces for kids in our Calgary, AB dental office. Invisalign benefits adults and teens who have permanent teeth. Patients with severe orthodontic issues may not benefit from Invisalign and may require surgery or more traditional methods to treat their smiles. Clear Invisalign aligners are best for patients with mild to moderate orthodontic concerns.

What can I eat and drink while wearing Invisalign?

Patients must remove their Invisalign trays before eating or drinking as this can damage them. Smoking, alcohol, and chewing gum must also be avoided. The residue from these items can get stuck in the tray or stain the aligners as well as your teeth. We recommend only drinking water when wearing the Invisalign aligners.

How long do you have to wear Invisalign?

Invisalign aligners need to be worn at least 22 hours a day. Although they can be removed to brush, floss, and eat, they work best when they are worn as much as possible. The aligners also need to be worn during sleep. When the aligners are cared for properly and worn regularly, patients can complete treatment within 12 to 18 months.
