Root Canals Aren’t As Bad As You Think

When the dental pulp in the middle of each tooth becomes infected, it needs to be removed to save the tooth. A root canal procedure removes this diseased tissue and can save the tooth from extraction. Although many patients may believe that root canals are painful procedures, they actually remove the pain caused by a dental infection. Dr. Shruti Chahal offers root canal treatment to her patients in Calgary, AB. She can help patients relieve pain caused by tooth infections while preserving the teeth.

Common Signs Of Infected Teeth

There are multiple signs of tooth infection, including:

  • Pain when chewing or biting
  • Aches in the head, jawbone, or ear
  • A single discolored teeth
  • Swelling in the mouth or cheek

If you have noticed any of these signs, contact our office immediately. Dr. Shruti Chahal can inspect your teeth and gums to determine the proper treatment. It is important to visit our office as soon as you discover signs of infection. If teeth are severely infected or damaged, they may need to be extracted.

Can Root Canals Be Comfortable?

Dr. Shruti Chahal ensures that her patients feel as comfortable as possible during their treatment. She uses a local anesthetic to numb the treated area and also offers dental sedation. Sedation dentistry provides a pain-free experience and allows patients to feel relaxed during the root canal procedure.

To begin treatment, Dr. Shruti Chahal will make a small opening in the tooth to access the interior chamber. Then, she will remove the infected pulp and clean and disinfect the canal. Finally, the opening in the tooth is sealed with an adhesive to prevent future infection.

Post-Procedure Care

Following your root canal treatment, we can use dental crowns to strengthen the treated teeth. Tooth crowns can not only help prevent reinfection but can prevent wear and tear to sensitive or weakened teeth. We recommend that patients continue to schedule regular appointments so we can keep an eye on their dental health. Routine appointments allow us to keep track of our patient’s health and quickly address any problems that arise.
